“Chalice coral” is a reef-aquarium trade grouping used for several encrusting or plating LPS coral genera. Growth form, eye structure, color, and skeletal detail help with identification, while care can vary between specimens. Start with moderate conditions and acclimate gradually

Many chalice corals are kept under low-to-moderate light with gentle-to-moderate indirect flow, but the correct placement depends on the coral's history and response. Acclimate new pieces gradually, avoid abrupt lighting changes, and watch tissue inflation, coloration, and exposed skeleton. Flow should prevent debris from settling without lifting tissue from the skeleton.

Leave room for growth and aggression

Chalices can develop sweeper tentacles or damage nearby corals through contact. Give the colony space beyond the frag's current edge and account for its eventual encrusting or plating growth. Stable salinity and alkalinity trends are more useful than frequent corrections, and occasional appropriate feeding may support growth when nutrient and flow conditions are suitable.
