New Coral Releases FAQ

What is a new coral release?

A new coral release is a named coral recently added to the Top Shelf Aquatics Signature Series and offered for sale. This collection gathers those recent releases in one place and only shows corals that are currently in stock, so the lineup changes as new pieces are added and existing ones sell through.

What is the difference between New Releases, Signature Corals, and the TSA Vault?

Signature Corals is the full catalog of TSA-named corals. New Releases highlights the most recent additions to that series. The TSA Vault holds hand-picked pieces selected for exceptional color and rarity. A coral can appear in more than one collection, and several current new releases are also Vault corals.

What is a holy grail coral?

“Holy grail” is a hobby term for an exceptionally rare, highly sought-after color morph, such as a glitter or grafted torch coral with unusual coloration. These corals are usually available in very small numbers, which is why they tend to carry higher prices and sell quickly when released.

Are new coral releases hard to care for?

Care depends on the coral, not on whether it is new. Goniopora and Acropora are better suited to established reefs with consistently stable parameters, while torch, Chalice, and Alveopora corals are generally more forgiving. Check the lighting, flow, placement, and temperament details on each product page before buying, and acclimate every new coral gradually.

Why are new coral releases limited?

Named corals are propagated from a limited number of colonies, and each frag needs time to heal and grow before it is ready to sell. As a result, many new releases start with only a few pieces available. When a release sells out, it drops off this page until more are ready.

Live coral buying guide

The latest new coral releases from TSA

New Releases brings together the named corals most recently added to our Signature Series. Each release has its own name and coloration, and many launch with only a handful of frags available. Several current releases are also part of the TSA Vault, our hand-picked selection of especially rare pieces. For the full range of livestock, explore all live corals for sale.

New Goniopora and glitter Goniopora

Goniopora make up the largest share of recent releases, including several glitter Goniopora with bright, contrasting polyp tips. These flowerpot corals are best suited to mature reefs with stable parameters. Most do well with moderate light and flow and a low-to-mid placement, and they are generally peaceful toward neighboring corals.

New torch, Euphyllia, and Chalice corals

Recent torch coral and Euphyllia releases add flowing tentacles and vivid tips, but they extend sweeper tentacles, so leave several inches between them and other corals. New Chalice corals offer bold patterned color under low-to-moderate light and are also aggressive toward close neighbors. Compare more options in our LPS corals collection.

New Acropora and SPS releases

New Acropora releases are typically the most demanding corals in this collection. They generally need strong lighting, high flow, a high placement, and tightly controlled alkalinity, calcium, and magnesium. Browse more SPS corals if you are building a stable, established Acropora-dominant reef.

Tips for buying limited coral releases

Limited releases can sell quickly, so decide in advance where a new coral will go and confirm that it fits your reef lighting, flow, and available space. Test water parameters with dependable water testing equipment, acclimate slowly, start lower in the tank than the final placement, and adjust only after watching how the coral responds.
