The coral farm behind the store

Most stores buy corals. We grow them.

Top Shelf Aquatics started with a 2,500-gallon farm and now runs a facility of roughly 30,000 to 40,000 gallons dedicated to coral aquaculture and grow-out. That's why the livestock on our floor looks the way it does, and why we can tell you where a piece came from.

What running our own farm actually changes for you

  • Grow-out before sale. Corals are held and grown in our systems rather than flipped straight out of a shipping box, so what you buy has already shown it can thrive in captivity.
  • Pest inspection. Corals are inspected and screened for pests before they're offered for sale.
  • WYSIWYG photography. Online coral listings show the exact piece you'll receive, not a stock photo.
  • Documented lineage. Our TSA Signature strains are named and propagated through multiple generations on the farm, so we can tell you where a piece came from.
  • Less pressure on wild reefs. Every aquacultured coral is one less colony collected from the ocean.

Our team includes experienced reefers and marine biologists, and the farm is the part of the operation they're proudest of.

Building reefs since 2012

Our story

Top Shelf Aquatics began over a decade ago as a small coral retail store in Central Florida, started by people who kept running into the same problems as customers.

Livestock arriving stressed or damaged, corals that looked nothing like the photo, and pests hitching a ride into established tanks. The response was to stop relying on other people's supply chains and build our own.

Fourteen-plus years later, the farm has grown from 2,500 gallons to a 30,000 to 40,000-gallon facility, the store serves reefers across Central Florida and ships livestock across the country, and the standard is the same one we set at the beginning.

Services

The store is one half of the business. The other half comes to you.

Maintenance and installation crews work out of the same building, so the advice you get at the counter is the same advice we use on client systems.

Aquarium maintenance

Weekly, bi-weekly and monthly service plans for reef, marine and freshwater aquariums across Central Florida, with RODI water included.

Custom aquarium installation

Design, engineering and installation for residential and commercial spaces, from nano displays to large in-wall builds, with financing available.

In-store help

Equipment advice, stocking plans and help troubleshooting a tank that isn't behaving. Bring photos and the problem, and talk it through with people who keep reef tanks themselves.

How we handle livestock

Everything comes down to whether the animal survives.

That's the only metric that matters in this business, and it shapes how every fish, coral and invert is handled before it reaches you.

  1. Medicated dips and copper

Incoming fish receive medicated dips and are held in copper before they reach the sales floor. We still recommend your own quarantine and observation before adding any new fish to a display tank.

  2. Coral pest inspection

Corals are inspected and screened for pests before they're offered for sale. Dipping new corals is still a smart part of your own routine.

  3. Time in our systems

Coral is held in our systems long enough to show it's stable, rather than being resold the day it arrives.

  4. Alive Arrival Guarantee

Shipped livestock is covered by our Alive Arrival Guarantee. Report any issue within 2 hours of FedEx's posted delivery time, or add Reef Guard for extended coverage.

  5. Service client guarantee

When our maintenance team purchases and adds livestock to a client's aquarium, it's guaranteed for 14 days, extended up to 30 days on qualifying systems.
