VorTech Battery Back-Up - EcoTech Marine

Without active water movement, fish and corals can begin to deteriorate in as little as four to ten hours — a window that closes fast during extended outages. The VorTech Battery Back-Up is designed specifically to bridge that gap, delivering uninterrupted flow from VorTech MP-series pumps without requiring a whole-tank UPS or generator setup. It connects directly to the pump's existing driver, draws from an 18 Amp-Hour sealed 12-volt battery, and activates automatically when mains power drops.

Runtime depends on pump model: expect up to 72 hours of coverage on an MP10 or MP20 and up to 36 hours on the more demanding MP40w. For installations running two pumps, a second Battery Back-Up unit can be linked to the first, doubling available runtime. A trickle charger is included, keeping the battery at full capacity between events so the unit is always ready when it matters.

The enclosure is powder-coated white aluminum — compact at 9" x 7" x 3.25" and durable enough for the humidity typical of an aquarium stand. All necessary wiring cables are included in the box, so setup does not require sourcing additional hardware. Owners of EcoTech Vectra return pumps can extend backup coverage to their return pump as well, though that configuration requires the separately sold EcoTech Vectra Battery Booster Cable.

This unit is a natural fit for any reef system already running VorTech pumps. It is one of the more cost-effective and lowest-effort backup flow solutions available for EcoTech-based setups, and its modular design means coverage can scale with the tank rather than requiring a full replacement as livestock or pump counts grow.
