Your aquarium should be the best-looking thing in the room, not the thing you feel guilty about on Sunday night.

Top Shelf Aquatics has been building and maintaining reefs in Central Florida since 2012, and our aquarium maintenance service handles every part of keeping a marine, reef, or freshwater system healthy: water testing and correction, glass and equipment cleaning, filtration media, water changes with RODI water we bring with us, livestock health checks, and controller monitoring.

People search for this a dozen different ways: aquarium maintenance service, fish tank cleaning service, aquarium cleaning service, aquarium servicing near me. It is all the same job, and doing it properly is the difference between a display that looks better every year and one that quietly declines.

We service homes, offices, restaurants, medical practices, and high-profile custom installations across Greater Orlando, Orange and Lake Counties, and the surrounding Central Florida communities. Every plan is built around your specific system, not a generic checklist.

Expert Guidance Monthly (12 visits per year) is for the reefer who wants expert guidance but still controls every aspect of care. It is a helping hand, not a hands-off plan, and we recommend supplementing it with your own between-visit maintenance.

Essential Bi-Weekly (26 visits per year) is our most popular plan and the right fit for most home reef systems. You stay involved with feeding and light upkeep, and we handle testing, water changes, media, and equipment.

Premium Weekly (52 visits per year) is all-inclusive. We handle everything except daily feeding. This is the standard for commercial displays, high-profile installations, and any system where downtime is not acceptable.

Pricing

What Aquarium Maintenance Costs in Central Florida

Pricing is quoted per system rather than off a rate card, because a 40-gallon freshwater community tank and a 300-gallon mixed reef with a dosing array are not the same job. These are the factors that move the number:

Tank volume

Water change volume, media cost, and time on site all scale with gallons.

System type

A reef with SPS corals, a calcium reactor, and a doser needs more testing and finer correction than a fish-only or freshwater system.

Visit frequency

Weekly service costs more per month than bi-weekly, but usually less per visit.

Equipment complexity

Controllers, roller filters, UV, chillers, and automated dosing add both value and service scope.

Drive distance

Systems inside the Greater Orlando metro price differently than extended service areas such as Tampa or New Smyrna Beach.

Current tank condition

A neglected or crashed system usually needs a one-time restoration visit before it goes on a recurring plan.

Who we serve

Who We Maintain Aquariums For

Homes

Residential Aquarium Maintenance

Keep your home aquarium looking its best without giving up your weekends. We handle routine cleaning, water quality management, media, and equipment, so your fish stay healthy and your tank stays clear. Whether it's a freshwater community tank or a full mixed reef, the standard of care is the same.

In-home aquarium maintenance is scheduled on a consistent day and window so you can plan around it, and established clients can hand us a key or a code and never think about it again.

Businesses

Commercial Aquarium Maintenance

An aquarium in a lobby, waiting room, restaurant, or retail floor is a brand asset, and a cloudy tank with dead fish works against you every hour it stays that way. Our commercial aquarium maintenance keeps water clean and balanced, livestock healthy, and glass spotless, on a schedule that works around your business hours.

We service offices, restaurants, medical and dental practices, hotels, salons, veterinary clinics, and retail spaces across Central Florida, and we carry the licensing and insurance your facility manager will ask for.

High-Profile and Custom Aquarium Service

For large custom and luxury systems, we offer specialized care built around the specific engineering of that build. We account for every detail, from precise water chemistry and coral placement to keeping the display immaculate for the people who see it every day. Many of these systems are ones we designed and installed ourselves, so we know the plumbing, electrical, and equipment history without guessing.

Livestock guarantee

Every Fish and Coral We Add Is Guaranteed

Any new livestock purchased and added by Top Shelf Aquatics is guaranteed for 14 days, extended up to 30 days on qualifying systems. That is the longest guarantee in the industry, and it exists because we stock, quarantine, and acclimate our own livestock rather than drop-shipping it from a wholesaler.

14days

Standard, extended up to 30 days on qualifying systems.

No other aquarium maintenance company in Central Florida publishes a livestock guarantee at all.

Problem tanks

Aquarium Repair, Emergencies, and Problem Tanks

Not every call starts with a clean tank. A significant share of our maintenance clients came to us with a system that was already in trouble.

Algae, Cyano, and Dinoflagellate Outbreaks

Nuisance algae is almost always a symptom, not the disease. We diagnose the underlying nutrient imbalance, flow problem, or lighting issue, correct it at the source, and then clean up the display. Treating the glass without treating the cause just resets the clock.

Equipment Failure and Aquarium Repair

Failed return pumps, leaking unions, dead heaters, drifting probes, clogged skimmers, seized dosers, and dying LED drivers. Fish tank repair is part of the service rather than a separate call. We diagnose and repair aquarium equipment, handle manufacturer warranty claims on your behalf, and carry common replacement parts so a failure does not become a week of downtime.

Neglected Tanks and Tank Takeovers

If you inherited a system, bought a home with a built-in aquarium, or let one get away from you, we will do a full assessment and a one-time restoration service, then put it on a plan. There is no lecture. Everyone who keeps reefs long enough has had a bad year.

Built for Florida

Why Central Florida Aquariums Need a Different Standard of Care

Aquarium advice written for Ohio does not survive an Orlando August. Central Florida creates specific, predictable problems for closed aquatic systems, and a maintenance plan that ignores them will eventually fail.

Heat

Heat, Humidity, and Evaporation

Ambient temperatures in Central Florida push tank temperature up for most of the year, and lighting, pumps, and returns add heat on top of that. High summer evaporation swings salinity fast in any system without reliable auto top off, and a stalled ATO can move a reef several points of salinity in a matter of days.

We size and maintain ATO systems, verify float switches and optical sensors on every visit, monitor for chiller or fan demand, and set controller alerts on temperature so a hot week does not become a bleaching event.

Storms

Hurricane Season and Power Loss

June through November, every aquarium in Central Florida is one outage away from a problem. Without circulation, dissolved oxygen falls first, temperature follows, and biological filtration begins to suffer within hours.

We help clients prepare with battery-backup air and circulation, generator inlet planning for larger systems, controller outage alerts, and a documented pre-storm checklist for your specific tank. We also prioritize post-storm service calls for maintenance clients.

Water

Central Florida Source Water

Municipal water across Orange, Seminole, and Lake Counties varies in hardness, chloramine treatment, and phosphate, and well water in outlying communities varies even more. None of it belongs in a reef untreated.

Every drop of water we put in your system is 0 TDS RODI, produced and tested at our Winter Park facility. We also service and replace home RODI units for clients who make their own.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions About Aquarium Maintenance

How often should an aquarium be professionally maintained?

Most home saltwater and reef systems do best on bi-weekly service, which is 26 visits a year. Freshwater and lower-bioload tanks can often run on monthly service. Commercial displays and large custom reefs should be on weekly service, because the cost of a visible problem is higher and the systems are usually more heavily stocked. We recommend a frequency after we see the system, not before.

How much does aquarium maintenance cost in Orlando?

Cost depends on tank volume, system type, visit frequency, equipment complexity, and drive distance. A small freshwater tank on monthly service and a 300 gallon SPS reef on weekly service are very different jobs. Every quote includes RODI water, testing, media, and labor, so there are no per-visit surprises.

Do you service both freshwater and saltwater aquariums?

Yes. We maintain reef systems, fish-only marine systems, FOWLR setups, planted freshwater tanks, and community tanks. Reef and marine work is our specialty, and it is what most of our client base runs.

Do you bring your own water and supplies?

Yes. RODI water is included in your monthly price, roughly 150 to 200 gallons a month for saltwater systems and 70 to 100 gallons for freshwater. We also bring salt, filtration media, roller fleece, test reagents, and cleaning equipment. You do not stock anything.

Can you help if my aquarium already has problems?

Yes, and that is how a lot of clients start with us. Algae outbreaks, cyanobacteria, dinoflagellates, unexplained livestock losses, cloudy water, failing equipment, and crashed systems are all things we diagnose and correct. Most problem tanks begin with a one-time restoration service, then move to a recurring plan.

What happens to my tank during a hurricane or power outage?

Circulation and oxygen matter most in the first hours, and temperature control matters next. We help maintenance clients set up battery backup circulation, controller outage alerts, and a written pre-storm checklist for their specific system, and we prioritize post-storm service calls for clients on a plan.

Do I need to be home for the service visit?

No. Most established clients provide a key, code, or gate access and never need to be present. You get a parameter report after every visit either way.

Do you guarantee the fish and coral you add?

Yes. Any livestock purchased and added by Top Shelf Aquatics is guaranteed for 14 days, extended to 30 days on qualifying systems, which is the longest guarantee in the industry.

Do you maintain aquariums you did not install?

Absolutely. We service systems from every builder and every equipment brand. The first visit includes a full audit of the plumbing, electrical, and equipment so we know what we are working with.

Do you offer commercial aquarium maintenance?

Yes. We maintain aquariums for offices, restaurants, medical and dental practices, hotels, retail spaces, and veterinary clinics across Central Florida, scheduled around your business hours. We are fully licensed and insured and can provide a certificate of insurance for your facility manager.

Can you also install a new aquarium?

Yes. We design and install custom aquariums throughout Central Florida and can bundle installation with a maintenance plan. See our custom aquarium installation services.

Do you repair aquarium equipment?

Yes. We diagnose and repair pumps, heaters, skimmers, dosers, controllers, UV sterilizers, and lighting, and we handle manufacturer warranty claims on your behalf.

What areas do you serve?

Greater Orlando, Winter Park, Orange County, Seminole County, Lake County, Kissimmee, and extended areas including Tampa, Spring Hill, and New Smyrna Beach. The full list is above.
