Mini Nassarius Snails are one of the more practical additions to a reef sandbed. They spend the majority of their time buried just beneath the surface, emerging when food is detected to scavenge uneaten meaty feeds, detritus, and benthic diatom films. This behavior directly addresses one of the most common sources of nutrient accumulation in closed reef systems — organic material settling into the substrate and breaking down unnoticed.
At 1/4" to 1/2", these snails are well-suited for aquariums of all sizes, including nano and mixed-reef setups where larger scavengers would be impractical. Their small size also makes them compatible with delicate sandbed communities and less likely to disturb corals or sessile invertebrates positioned near the substrate.
These snails are sourced exclusively from TSA Farm Systems, where they are sustainably aquacultured rather than wild-collected. Aquacultured specimens tend to acclimate more readily to aquarium conditions, carry a lower disease risk, and represent a more environmentally sound choice for the hobby. Given stable reef parameters, they are known to breed in home aquariums, meaning a small initial population can grow into a self-sustaining cleanup crew over time.
Before adding Nassarius snails, confirm your sandbed has at least 1" of depth — finer, deeper sandbeds are preferred. They require no supplemental feeding in a mature reef with regular feeding activity, but will benefit from occasional meaty food offerings in lower-nutrient systems.
Overview
Sift. Scavenge. Sustain.
Mini Nassarius Snails bring practical sandbed maintenance to reefs of any size. Here is what makes them a reliable cleanup crew staple.

- Poses no threat to fish, corals, or other invertebrates
- Small 1/4"–1/2" size limits disturbance to delicate tank inhabitants
- Compatible with mixed-reef and nano aquarium setups
Aquacultured
- Sustainably raised in TSA Farm Systems — not wild-collected
- Acclimate more readily than wild-caught specimens
- Capable of breeding and self-sustaining in home reef aquariums
