Radion XR15 G5 & G6 Diffuser Upgrade - EcoTech Marine

The Radion XR15 G5 & G6 Diffuser Upgrade addresses one of the most common trade-offs in LED reef lighting: the tension between intensity and even distribution. Standard LED fixtures rely on tight optics to push light deep into the water column, but those same optics isolate each emitter, creating visible spotting, uneven color mixing, and the characteristic disco-ball shimmer. This diffuser replaces that narrow projection with a broad, blended output that more closely resembles natural sunlight or the spread of a metal halide pendant.

The optical effect is a measurable redistribution of light rather than a simple reduction. PAR testing confirms an approximate 20% decrease in peak output, but that loss is offset by meaningfully better coverage across the tank footprint — particularly in corners and shaded areas under rockwork. Because most reef systems run the XR15 well below full capacity, the difference can typically be recovered by stepping up the fixture's power output slightly, leaving net usable PAR largely unchanged.

Spectrum blending is the other core benefit. Individual LEDs emit narrow wavelength bands that, without diffusion, reach the water as distinct color channels rather than a unified spectrum. The diffuser integrates those channels into a single cohesive light source, which tends to produce more natural coral coloration and can make fluorescence more consistent across the tank.

The G5/G6 version features a redesigned magnetic attachment system. The diffuser lens mounts directly to the underside of the XR15 body without screws or clips, seats flush for a clean profile, and detaches in seconds for lens cleaning. Installation requires no tools and no modification to the fixture. Note that this diffuser uses an adapter plate specific to the G5 and G6 chassis — it will not fit earlier Radion XR15 generations.
