Hydros Flow Sensor - Hydros

The Hydros Flow Sensor gives aquarists a direct, data-backed view of flow through their most critical plumbing lines. Rather than relying on pump manufacturer specs or visual estimates, the sensor measures actual gallons per hour and reports that figure continuously to the Hydros app. This matters most in scenarios where an undetected flow failure — a blocked intake, a failing return pump, a kinked reactor feed line — could cause equipment damage or a crash before the problem becomes visible.

Four pipe sizes are available to match common aquarium plumbing configurations: 3/4" (40–800 GPH), 1" (50–1,500 GPH), 1-1/2" (100–2,500 GPH), and 2" (200–4,050 GPH). Each sensor ships with Schedule 80 PVC unions to simplify in-line installation, and an 8-foot wire provides enough reach for most sump and equipment cabinet setups. Connection to a Hydros controller is made through an aviation-style GX-12 plug into any available Sense Port — no additional power wiring is required.

Where the sensor moves beyond simple monitoring is in its integration with Hydros automation rules. Through the app, you can define flow thresholds that trigger actions on connected devices — cutting power to a reactor via a Control XP8, Power 4 WiFi strip, or Smart Plug if flow drops below a safe minimum, for example. This closes the loop between a passive reading and an active response, reducing the window between a problem occurring and equipment being protected.

The Hydros Flow Sensor is manufactured by AutoAqua in Taiwan and has been tested and validated by CoralVue for seamless compatibility with the Hydros platform. Installation requires a Hydros controller with an open Sense Port, basic plumbing knowledge, pipe thread tape, and PVC adhesive. The product carries a 6-month limited warranty from CoralVue.
