Golden Lined Rabbitfish ( Siganus lineatus)

The Golden Lined Rabbitfish, also known as the Golden Spinefoot, is a stunning and hardy algae grazer. Its silver body, crisscrossed with intricate golden lines and spots, makes it one of the most elegant herbivorous fish in the hobby. Found in coastal reefs and lagoons throughout the Indo-Pacific, it plays a key role in natural algae control.

Tank Requirements
A tank of at least 125 gallons is recommended to support its active swimming behavior. Provide ample rockwork for grazing and shelter, along with stable water parameters. These fish prefer moderate flow and well-oxygenated environments. Exercise caution when handling, as their dorsal spines are venomous.

Color, Personality, and Hardiness
Golden Lined Rabbitfish are peaceful, intelligent, and highly adaptive. They can be shy initially but soon become confident grazers in the open. Their brilliant golden markings intensify under strong reef lighting. Known for their resilience, they adjust well to captive conditions and coexist peacefully with most tankmates.

Diet and Feeding
Primarily herbivorous, this species thrives on a diet rich in marine algae, spirulina, nori, and plant-based pellets. Supplement with small portions of mysis or brine shrimp to ensure complete nutrition. Regular feedings throughout the day promote natural grazing behavior and prevent nipping at soft corals.

Tankmates and Behavior
Reef-safe with caution, they generally ignore corals but may sample soft varieties if underfed. Best housed singly or as a bonded pair, they are compatible with tangs, wrasses, and angelfish. Their steady grazing makes them invaluable members of a clean, balanced reef environment.
