A magnetic coupling connects the external driver to the internal wet side through tank glass up to 0.375 inches (9.5mm) thick, producing three-dimensional flow and gyre conditions without the thermal or electrical drawbacks of submersible motors. The result is broad, diffuse water movement with no concentrated "hot spots" — a meaningful advantage for mixed reef systems where flow distribution directly affects coral health and detritus management.
Control is handled through the QuietDrive controller included in the box or wirelessly via the EcoTech Marine Mobius app on iOS or Android. No additional interface module is required for wireless operation. The app exposes 12 distinct flow modes covering everything from steady constant flow to reef crest simulation and oscillating gyre patterns. Feed Mode drops all linked EcoTech pumps to idle at a single button press, while Night Mode runs on a programmable schedule to reduce turbulence during dark hours. Wave Auto Tune Mode can be particularly effective at dislodging detritus from rockwork when paired with a second pump on the opposite tank wall.
MXM compatibility extends the MP10mQD's integration options to Neptune Systems Apex controllers, allowing EcoTech pumps and AquaIllumination fixtures to be managed alongside other Apex-connected equipment through Apex Fusion — without switching between separate apps. Power consumption ranges from 8 to 19 watts depending on speed, making this one of the more efficient options in its flow class.
The MP10mQD is best suited to tanks in the 2.5–50 gallon range, though its upper flow capacity can serve as supplemental circulation in larger systems. Glass thickness must not exceed 0.375 inches for proper magnetic coupling. The pump ships complete with the wet side, QuietDrive driver, wireless module, foam strainer, accessory hardware, and power supply — no additional purchases are required to get started.
