Hydros Maven - Automatic Water Tester

Consistent water chemistry is one of the hardest things to maintain in a reef tank, and manual testing is where most hobbyists fall short—not because they are careless, but because daily or even weekly testing is genuinely difficult to sustain. The Hydros Maven removes that burden by automatically testing Alkalinity (dKH via NEMI reagent method), Nitrate (NO3), Phosphate (PO4), Calcium (Ca), and Magnesium (Mg) on a continuous schedule, delivering the kind of data density that makes real stability possible. It operates as a fully stand-alone unit, meaning no additional Hydros controller is required to run tests or view results.

The hardware is built with maintenance in mind. The testing cuvette is housed in an external chamber that can be accessed without disturbing the electronics, and a waterproof barrier separates the optical measurement components from any liquid contact. Color-coded reagent lines reduce the chance of setup errors, and the device ships with sample reagents to get started. Two 12V Drive Ports (1.5A each, 3A total) allow the Maven to directly power dosing pumps, ATO pumps, solenoids, and other small devices. Two Sense Ports accommodate temperature probes, optical fluid-level sensors, leak detectors, flow meters, and TDS sensors. Two Command Bus ports extend the unit into a broader Hydros network for redundant failsafe logic.

For users already running Hydros hardware, the Maven integrates cleanly into the app-based ecosystem, where test results can trigger dosing adjustments, activate alerts, or feed into more complex automation rules. The cloud-based app supports remote monitoring and control from anywhere, while a dual-core 32-bit processor handles local decisions without depending on an internet connection. Alert thresholds, notification preferences, and schedules are all configured through the same intuitive interface used across the Hydros product line.

Setup does not require programming knowledge. The app uses tap-and-drag menus designed for anyone comfortable with a smartphone. Physically, the Maven measures 9.5 x 4.25 x 11 inches, so plan for adequate clearance in or near the sump cabinet. It ships with the controller, power supply, and sample reagents.
