High Output UV Sterilizer - IceCap

The IceCap High Output UV Sterilizer passes aquarium or pond water through a chamber housing a high-intensity germicidal lamp, exposing free-floating microorganisms to a lethal dose of ultraviolet light. The result is effective reduction or elimination of suspended bacteria, viruses, protozoa, algae spores, and parasites — without introducing any chemicals or biocides to the system. Because UV sterilization targets only organisms moving through the water column, established beneficial bacterial colonies in filter media and substrate remain completely undisturbed.

Compatibility is broad. The unit works equally well on reef and fish-only saltwater tanks, freshwater aquariums, and outdoor ponds. Plumbing is straightforward: molded hose barb fittings (sold separately) accommodate 1/2", 3/4", or 1" flexible hose and can be trimmed for maximum flow, while the body is also compatible with standard PVC fittings for hard-plumbed installations. Secure mounting brackets are included to fix the unit in the sump, cabinet, or alongside a pond filter.

Beyond pathogen control, running a UV sterilizer at appropriate flow rates has a measurable secondary benefit: improvement of the system's redox potential. A better oxidation-reduction balance supports the immune function of fish and invertebrates, which in turn helps the tank population cope with any parasite exposure that does occur. Installation planning should account for the separate electronic ballast (included), which drives the germicidal lamp and should be mounted in a dry, accessible location. Replacement lamp intervals and quartz sleeve cleaning schedules will affect long-term performance; UV output degrades over time even when the lamp appears lit, so adherence to the manufacturer's maintenance recommendations is important for sustained effectiveness.
