Super Saiyan Dragon’s Breath (Halymenia sp.) is an exceptionally vibrant red macroalgae and a highly sought-after variant of traditional Dragon’s Breath. Known for its intense fluorescent red and orange coloration, Super Saiyan adds a stunning splash of color to refugiums, macroalgae displays, and reef aquariums while also serving as an effective natural method of nutrient export. As it grows, it absorbs excess nitrate and phosphate, helping maintain excellent water quality and a balanced aquarium ecosystem.

Super Saiyan thrives under moderate to strong lighting and moderate to high water flow. For the healthiest growth, it performs best when gently tumbled in a refugium, allowing all sides of the algae to receive light while preventing detritus from settling within the branches. Providing a quality full-spectrum refugium light will maximize both growth and its brilliant coloration.

As the algae grows, periodic harvesting is recommended to maximize nutrient export and encourage continued healthy growth. Its graceful branching structure also creates excellent habitat for copepods, amphipods, and other beneficial microfauna, making it a valuable addition to refugium systems.

Please note that tangs, rabbitfish, angelfish, and many other herbivorous or omnivorous fish will readily graze on Super Saiyan Dragon’s Breath. While this makes it an outstanding natural food source, it may not persist long in aquariums with heavy herbivore populations.
