K3-130 Protein Skimmer - IceCap

The IceCap K3-130 INT addresses one of the more common sump-space problems in the hobby: finding a capable skimmer that doesn't monopolize every inch of your filtration compartment. Rated for systems up to 140 gallons, it delivers reliable organic waste removal through a DCAIR 1.0 pinwheel pump that generates a fine, consistent bubble column without the noise penalty common to older AC-driven designs.

Control is handled by an included DC pump controller with 10 discrete power settings. That range lets you dial output to match your actual bioload rather than running the pump at a fixed speed and compensating with water level adjustments alone. The integrated feed timer pauses the skimmer during feedings and resumes automatically, which reduces surface skimming of uneaten food and cuts down on unnecessary cup overflow events.

Construction throughout is high-quality acrylic. The submerged pipeless output keeps plumbing simple and eliminates the return line splash common on older designs. The relatively compact body — 5 inches in diameter with a 7.3 × 5.6-inch footprint — fits comfortably in standard sump skimmer sections without requiring significant modification.

For setup, the K3-130 INT performs best in 6–9 inches of water depth. If your sump runs shallower or deeper than that range, performance will be affected, and a standpipe or adjustable water level section should be considered. As with any skimmer, matching the unit to actual bioload — not just tank volume — will determine how well it performs long-term. Heavily stocked fish systems may push this skimmer toward its upper limit; lightly stocked reef tanks in the same size range should find it runs with headroom to spare.
