The Hydros Control X4 is a capable mid-tier aquarium controller designed to handle the full range of routine monitoring and automation tasks without leaning on expensive add-on modules. A single unit supports four Sense Ports, two Drive Ports, two Probe Ports, 0–10V I/O, and two Command Bus connections — enough to cover temperature, pH, ORP, water level, flow, leak detection, and pump or accessory control in a typical reef or freshwater setup. All control logic runs on a fast dual-core 32-bit processor inside the unit itself, so the system continues to function and make decisions even if cloud connectivity is interrupted.

The Sense Ports are the most flexible inputs on the unit. Each port accepts a wide range of sensor types — temperature probes, optical and capacitive liquid level sensors, rope and point leak detectors, flow rate sensors, magnetic switches, and push-button switches — without requiring dedicated modules for each. The Drive Ports output switched 12V DC power and continuously monitor the current draw of whatever is connected, alerting you immediately if a pump stalls or fails. This kind of real-time current monitoring is a meaningful safety feature that most basic controllers do not offer.

The Probe Ports are purpose-built for pH and ORP measurement and use an ultra-high-quality input chip with digital galvanic isolation on each channel. Galvanic isolation prevents interference from motors, pumps, and other accessories sharing the same system — a common source of inaccurate pH readings on less carefully designed controllers. The 0–10V I/O ports extend compatibility to variable speed pumps and third-party devices, and can also read simple switch closures from legacy automation hardware.

The X4 is IP65-rated and uses aircraft-style connectors throughout, which matters in a saltwater environment where corrosion and splash exposure are ongoing concerns.
