Description

The Aqua Ultraviolet Advantage 2000+ UV Sterilizer helps control free-floating algae, bacteria, and protozoa in your aquarium without chemicals or additives. This Aqua Ultraviolet UV sterilizer uses a hang-on-back style hanger spout for the outflow, so you only need to plumb the inlet, and it is suggested for saltwater sterilization on aquariums up to 75 gallons.

Why Choose the Advantage 2000+?

  • Clear blue quartz cap: lets you see when the lamp is on without exposure to harmful UV-C rays
  • Outlet hook: mounts onto the top edge of most standard aquariums
  • 1/2" barbed inlet: connects to any 1/2" tubing for simple setup
  • Durable body: Aqua Ultraviolet designs it to last longer than traditional UV sterilizers
  • Quick installation: add UV to almost any aquarium in minutes

A Hang On Back UV Sterilizer for Small Systems

The Advantage series includes a hanger that houses the output flow from the sterilizer, so you only plumb the input and the hanger takes care of the rest. That makes this hang on back UV sterilizer a strong fit for quarantine tanks, nano and pico reefs, and portable frag tanks for swaps and shows where you want clear water.

How UV Sterilization Works

The UV lamp emits a UV-C wavelength that alters and disrupts the DNA or RNA of single-celled organisms that pass by it. Housing the lamp in a large body maximizes contact time, which makes the sterilizer more efficient.

Flow rate determines what your sterilizer targets. At lower flow rates, water spends more time in the body and the UV works on unwanted bacteria and protozoa. At higher flow rates, it helps control free-floating algae, a common cause of cloudy tank water. We highly suggest using a gate valve or a DC pump to control flow through the UV sterilizer.

UV Sterilizer Saltwater Aquarium Flow Rates

Application Rating
Saltwater sterilization Aquariums up to 75 gallons
Suggested saltwater sterilization flow 233 GPH
Saltwater reef applications 428–642 GPH
Freshwater sterilization Up to 500 gallons
Freshwater clarification Up to 2,000 gallons

Maintenance

Over time, sterilizer efficiency drops because the lamp no longer puts out the same amount of energy and the quartz sleeve can become coated with mineral deposits and turn cloudy. Replace the quartz sleeve about once per year, along with the UV lamp, to keep your sterilizer working like it did on day one. Many reefers notice it is time for a new bulb and sleeve when algae starts growing more rapidly on the glass, rock, and other surfaces.
