This species is an opportunistic carnivore and scavenger. In many tanks it will take some leftover fish food, but it stays in better condition with direct feeding. Offer small meaty items such as thawed mysis, chopped shrimp, krill, clam, squid, or high-quality sinking marine pellets. Feed 2–4 times per week; very large individuals may accept smaller portions more often. Target feeding with tongs or a turkey baster near its cave reduces competition and helps prevent it from trying to “steal” food from corals or slow fish. Remove uneaten chunks to keep nutrients down.
