Overview:
Tiger Sand Conch (a sand-dwelling conch commonly sold as “tiger” for its patterned shell) is a peaceful marine snail best kept in a mature aquarium with a well-established sand bed. Provide at least 2–3 in (5–8 cm) of fine to medium aragonite sand so it can burrow and move naturally while grazing. Stable reef parameters are important: 24–26°C (75–79°F), salinity 1.024–1.026, pH 8.1–8.4, alkalinity 8–10 dKH, and low ammonia/nitrite at all times. Moderate flow is ideal; very strong flow can flip or stress it. Because it depends on natural films and detritus, it does best after the tank has matured (often 3+ months) rather than in a brand-new setup. Plan for ample floor space; these snails roam and can starve in small tanks with limited grazing area.

Compatibility:
Tiger Sand Conchs are generally reef-safe and ignore corals and fish. They are best with peaceful community fish and other non-predatory invertebrates. Avoid housing with known snail predators such as many wrasses (e.g., some Halichoeres), large crabs, aggressive hermits, triggers, puffers, and some large dottybacks. Hermit crabs can harass conchs for food or shells; keep hermit numbers modest and provide spare shells. Multiple conchs can coexist if the tank has enough sand-grazing resources; as a rule, add them sparingly and only if you can sustain their natural food supply.

Health and Quarantine:
Most losses come from starvation, rapid salinity shifts, and predation. Acclimate slowly (drip acclimation is recommended) and keep oxygenation high during transfer. In quarantine, use a container with clean sand (or a shallow dish of sand), stable salinity, and daily observation; copper medications are not suitable for conchs. Watch for a weak grip, failure to extend the foot, repeated flipping, or a foul smell (a sign it has died). Maintain calcium and alkalinity for shell health, and avoid prolonged exposure to air during handling. Regularly check that it is mobile and grazing, and remove any deceased snails promptly to prevent ammonia spikes.
