Prime 16 HD LED Reef Light - Black Body - Aqua Illumination

The Prime 16 HD represents Aqua Illumination's most refined iteration of their flagship compact fixture. Where earlier Prime models allocated a fixed wattage per channel, the 16 HD introduces dynamic power sharing — the unit actively redistributes unused power from underutilized channels to whichever colors are being pushed hardest. The result is a broader effective intensity range without increasing the overall power draw, which stays at a maximum of 59W from the wall.

The eight-channel LED array covers the full spectrum a reef demands: four cool white, four blue, four royal blue, one photo red, one green, one violet, one UV, and one moonlight LED. Each channel can be tuned independently through the myAI app, available on iOS and Android. Scheduling ranges from simple pre-set day cycles to detailed multi-point programming with per-channel intensity curves across the day. Master/slave grouping lets you program a single unit and push those settings across an entire array of fixtures — useful when running multiple Primes over a longer tank.

For hobbyists already running a Neptune Apex controller, the Prime 16 HD is MXM-compatible. MXM is a collaborative wireless integration between Neptune Systems, EcoTech Marine, and Aqua Illumination that brings AI lights under direct Apex and Apex Fusion control — no secondary app required during regular operation once configured. This is a meaningful convenience for mixed-brand setups.

Optics are handled by custom TIR lenses rated at greater than 90% optical efficiency, with a diffuse exit surface to improve color blending across the footprint. Coverage is rated at 24" x 24" with a peak PAR of 100 µMol at 24 inches depth — sufficient for most SPS, LPS, and mixed reef applications in the nano-to-mid-size range. The 20-foot power cable provides placement flexibility, and three mounting options are sold separately: the AI Flex Arm, the Tank Mounting Arm, and the Hanging Kit. The right choice typically depends on tank geometry and how much adjustability you want after installation.
