The kit centers on a high-range conductivity probe with a K=10 cell constant, a range of 20 to 2000 mS/cm, and a POM housing rated for continuous use from 0 to 80°C. The BNC connection interfaces directly with Hydros controllers and compatible conductivity meters, keeping the installation straightforward.
Two-point calibration is the standard for reliable conductivity measurement, and this kit includes everything needed to perform it: 100 mL each of 28 ppt and 35 ppt calibration solutions. Both solutions correspond to salinity levels that bracket the typical reef tank target range, giving you a calibration curve grounded in real-world marine parameters. Follow the calibration procedure outlined in your controller's operation manual to get the probe dialed in before use.
The probe measures 12 x 145 mm with a 3-foot cable, making it practical to position in a sump or dedicated testing chamber. CoralVue recommends pairing the probe with the Hydros iV isolated vessel, which physically separates the water sample from the rest of the system. This isolation eliminates electrical interference from pumps, heaters, and other equipment that can skew conductivity readings — a common source of error in probes placed directly in a crowded sump.
This kit is a natural fit for any aquarist already running Hydros monitoring or automation equipment who wants to bring salinity tracking into the same ecosystem. The Hydros iV isolated vessel is not included but is available separately and strongly recommended for accurate, interference-free readings.
