The skimmer body's "beer bottle" curve is not aesthetic — it serves a functional role. As the air-water mixture travels upward through the reaction chamber, the tapered profile naturally slows and stabilizes turbulence, promoting more consistent bubble formation and improved contact time before the foam reaches the collection cup. Construction is solid PVC and high-quality acrylic throughout, with all components rated for marine use and designed to disassemble completely for cleaning and service.
Power comes from the IceCap EVair 400, a pinwheel-style pump drawing just 8 watts while moving approximately 100 GPH of water and 400 LPH of air. The pump features a twist-lock housing for secure access to the pinwheel impeller — a detail that makes routine cleaning straightforward. The pipeless output design eliminates submerged pipe connections, reducing noise, simplifying water level adjustment, and keeping the overall footprint to 4.5 by 7.5 inches.
Installation requires a sump water level between 6 and 8 inches. Bioload directly affects skimmer performance: the K1-100 is rated for up to 80 gallons under light bioload, 60 gallons under medium bioload, and 40 gallons under heavy bioload.
