Description
Harlequin Shrimp have become very popular within the saltwater aquarium hobby, not only for their stunning colors and unusual behavior, but also their appetite for a variety of nuisance starfish species, such as asterinas. While these shrimp have seemingly large claws, these are not used for hunting but rather for social displays. Harlequin Shrimp tend to do best when kept in pairs in saltwater aquariums with moderate lighting and plenty of small caves, crevices and overhangs. Harlequin Shrimp will ONLY feed on the tube feet of starfish and urchins, and will rapidly starve and deteriorate in the absence of these prey animals.
