Bali Aquarich Black Helmet Picasso Clownfish
(Amphiprion percula – Designer Morph)
WYSIWYG – Approx. Size: 2.25–3.25 Inches
The Black Helmet Picasso Clownfish is a striking designer morph developed by Bali Aquarich, known for its bold patterning and deep contrast. This variant features erratic white striping over a vibrant orange body, with a rich black “helmet” mask covering the face and extending across the head. Each individual has a unique pattern, often with thick, swirling bars or partial saddles. Captive-bred and naturally hardy, this morph brings both visual impact and personality to reef aquariums, making it a favorite among collectors and aquascapers alike.
Tank Requirements
Minimum Tank Size: 20 gallons (larger if kept in pairs or with anemones)
Environment: Rockwork, caves, and soft-flow areas; hosting anemones optional
Flow: Moderate to low
Lid: Recommended — clownfish may jump when startled
These clownfish thrive in well-established reef systems with stable parameters. While they do not require anemones, they may host in corals or artificial substitutes.
Natural Behavior
Clownfish are social, semi-territorial fish that often form bonds with specific locations or host anemones. They are known for their quirky, waddling swim pattern and their tendency to establish a “home base” in the tank. When paired, they often develop a peaceful, lifelong bond, with the dominant fish becoming female.
Diet & Feeding
These omnivorous fish accept a wide range of foods:
-
High-quality pellet or flake foods
-
Frozen mysis, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood
-
Occasional live foods for enrichment
Feed once or twice daily. A varied diet enhances coloration and vitality.
Tankmates & Compatibility
Temperament: Peaceful; may become territorial near hosting sites or during spawning
Reef Safe: Yes — safe with corals and inverts
Best With: Other peaceful community fish (e.g., gobies, firefish, blennies)
Avoid housing with aggressive tankmates or overly large predators. Compatible with other designer clownfish only in large systems to prevent aggression.
