Premium Frostbite Clownfish
(Amphiprion ocellaris – Designer Morph)
WYSIWYG – Approx. Size: 1.75–2.00 Inches
Maximum Size: Up to 3 Inches
The Premium Frostbite Clownfish is a high-grade designer variation of the Ocellaris Clownfish, bred for its heavy white body coloration contrasted by crisp black edges and vibrant orange facial features. These fish display an icy, snow-covered appearance with bold black speckling or "freckles" near the gill plates and along the flanks. Premium specimens show more intense contrast and cleaner white coverage. Captive-bred and exceptionally hardy, the Frostbite Clown is an eye-catching, reef-safe addition ideal for both beginner and experienced hobbyists.
Tank Requirements
Minimum Tank Size: 20 gallons (larger if paired or housed with hosting anemones)
Environment: Rockwork, caves, or soft corals/anemones for hosting
Flow: Low to moderate
Lid: Recommended — clownfish may jump, especially when newly introduced
Frostbite Clownfish thrive in established reef systems with stable water conditions. While they do not require anemones, they will often host in euphyllia corals, toadstools, or bubble tips if available.
Natural Behavior
Like other clownfish, Frostbites are territorial and may form tight bonds with a host or specific area of the tank. Best kept singly or in bonded pairs, they display the classic clownfish "waddle" swim pattern and can become quite personable. The dominant individual in a pair becomes female over time.
Diet & Feeding
Omnivorous and easy to care for:
-
High-quality flakes and pellets formulated for marine fish
-
Frozen mysis, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood
-
Occasional live foods for variety and enrichment
Feed 1–2 times daily. A diverse diet enhances coloration and overall vitality.
Tankmates & Compatibility
Temperament: Peaceful to semi-aggressive (especially in smaller tanks or when hosting)
Reef Safe: Yes — does not harm corals or inverts
Best With: Other peaceful reef fish (e.g., gobies, basslets, dartfish)
Avoid housing with aggressive species or multiple clownfish in small tanks. Pairs do well together, and Frostbites can coexist with other designer morphs in large, well-managed systems.
