Neon Dottyback (Pseudochromis aldabraensis)
The Captive-Bred Neon Dottyback is a brilliant, electric-blue fish known for its bold personality and dazzling coloration. Its slender body flashes iridescent hues under reef lighting, making it a standout addition to any aquarium. Despite their small size, these dottybacks exude confidence and charm, bringing both color and character to reef systems.
Tank Requirements
Neon Dottybacks are well-suited for aquariums of 20 gallons or more. Provide a reef structure with ample hiding spots and caves—these fish enjoy ducking in and out of rockwork and may stake out a favorite retreat. A secure lid is recommended, especially in tanks with active fish, as they can become startled and leap.
Vibrant and Confident
Known for their feisty nature, Neon Dottybacks are active swimmers and often explore their surroundings with curiosity. Captive-bred individuals are generally more sociable and adaptable than wild-caught counterparts, making them a great choice for aquarists seeking color and movement with less territorial behavior.
Diet and Feeding
These carnivorous fish thrive on a varied diet of high-protein foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood, and premium pellets or frozen blends. Feed once or twice daily to support growth and maintain their intense coloration.
Tankmates and Behavior
Captive-Bred Neon Dottybacks tend to be less aggressive than wild specimens but can still display territorial behavior, especially in smaller tanks or when housed with similar-shaped fish. Best kept with semi-aggressive to peaceful tankmates in well-aquascaped environments. Fully reef-safe, they pose no threat to corals or invertebrates.
