Oman Clarkii Clownfish (Amphiprion clarkii)

The Oman Clarkii Clownfish is a bold and resilient addition to marine aquariums, known for its striking black, white, and orange coloration and hardy nature. Native to the waters of the Arabian Sea, this rare regional variety of the Clarkii complex features a rich, dark body with a glowing orange face and fins, paired with bright white vertical bands. Their confident swimming and curious behavior make them a favorite among aquarists seeking personality and visual impact.

Tank Requirements

Oman Clarkii Clownfish adapt well to a variety of tank sizes, with a minimum of 30 gallons recommended for a single specimen or bonded pair. They thrive in reef and fish-only systems alike and appreciate plenty of rockwork and crevices to explore and claim as territory. Anemones are optional but can enhance natural hosting behavior if compatible.

Color, Personality, and Hardiness

This variety showcases deep contrast and vivid orange tones that remain bold throughout adulthood. Oman Clarkii are more assertive than other clownfish species and can become territorial, especially when hosting an anemone or defending a nesting site. Despite their feisty streak, they are incredibly hardy, making them excellent candidates for both beginner and experienced reefkeepers.

Diet and Feeding

Omnivorous and easy to feed, they readily accept a wide range of prepared and frozen foods. A balanced diet of high-quality pellets or flakes, supplemented with frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and marine algae, supports long-term health, coloration, and breeding behavior.

Tankmates and Behavior

While Oman Clarkii Clownfish can be kept with a broad range of reef-safe tankmates, caution should be taken with other clownfish species to avoid aggression. Best kept singly or as a bonded pair, they do well in both community and semi-aggressive setups. Fully reef-safe, they will not bother corals or ornamental inverts.
