Description

Reef Genetics Bio Pellets are made from 100% PHA (Polyhydroxyalkanoates) resin derived from corn, with no fillers or harmful chemicals. These bio-pellets offer a natural carbon dosing solution to reduce nitrates and phosphates, helping control algae growth in both freshwater and saltwater aquariums.

As the pellets are consumed by bacteria in your aquarium, they help eliminate nitrates and phosphates that fuel algae growth. This results in clearer water, a healthier tank environment, and less maintenance.

Reef Genetics Bio Pellets are ideal for freshwater aquariums, planted tanks, saltwater aquariums, and reef tanks. They are safe for all fish, invertebrates and plants. For best results, use in a fluidized media reactor with a gentle tumbling motion. Bio Pellets can also be combined with other Reef Genetics products such as GFO or Carbon.

  • Carbon source media for beneficial bacteria
  • Removes nitrates and phosphates
  • No fillers or harmful chemicals, 100% PHA made from corn
  • Made in the USA with rigorous quality and purity standards
  • Safe for all aquarium life across all types of water and tanks
  • Uniform size and round shape for smooth fluidization

Bio Pellets are recommended for use in a media reactor. Recirculating media reactors have become very popular and effective for bio pellet use. By controlling the flow through the reactor directly into the protein skimmer, you can allow trace levels of nitrates to remain, potentially helping the colors of SPS corals and others. Tumbling the pellets gently within the reactor eliminates clumping, bio film or break in problems. Simply adjust water flow through the reactor to reduce nitrates to the desired level. If pellets are fracturing or breaking down, flow is too strong and should be reduced.

How to Use Bio Pellets

  1. Intial starting dose 1 cup per 50 gallons in a fluidized reactor.
  2. For aquariums with Nitrates below 50 PPM, 1/2 starting dose is recommended for the first 3-4 weeks, increasing weekly thereafter.
  3. Add or replace Bio Pellets as needed.

Pro tip: Do not let pellets dissolve to below 1/2 the original amount or you may notice reduced effectiveness.

Pro tip: Prior to use rinse and soak new media in RODI or tank water for up to 24 hours to prevent floating. Keep pellets moving within reactor to prevent clumping or clogging.
