Rabbitfish Care Guide: Reef-Safe Algae Eaters for Serious Hobbyists
Introduction to Rabbitfish Care Rabbitfish belong to the genus Siganus, a group of herbivorous saltwater fish from the Indo-Pacific region known for...
They are omnivorous micro-predators and scavengers that pick at detritus, biofilm, and leftover meaty foods. In many tanks they won’t get enough from “cleanup” alone, so target feeding helps. Feed small portions 3–5 times per week (daily in very small systems), using finely chopped mysis, brine shrimp, clam, krill dust, fish eggs, and quality micro-pellets. Occasional powdered coral foods can be accepted, but prioritize meaty items. Use a pipette to deliver food near the shrimp or their host; turn down flow briefly so food isn’t swept away. Watch that faster fish don’t steal everything—if they do, feed the tank first, then target the shrimp.
