Halloween Hermits are omnivorous grazers. In a well-established tank they will pick at film algae, detritus, and leftover food, but they should still be fed. Offer small portions 3–5 times per week (daily in very clean tanks) and remove excess to protect water quality. Use a mix of sinking marine pellets, algae wafers, dried seaweed (nori), and meaty items such as mysis, brine shrimp, finely chopped shrimp, or clam. Rotate foods to avoid nutritional gaps. Provide a calcium source (reef-safe calcium/alk maintenance is usually enough) and occasional foods rich in carotenoids to support coloration. Feed after lights-out if fish outcompete it during the day.
